VOICES II, Echoes after the scream. Richmond VA 2020 Black Lives Matter - BLM

VOICES II
Echoes after the scream

These photographs were taken at the Gen. Robert E. Lee memorial statue and other Civil War memorials along Monument Avenue in Richmond VA, June-July 2020, during Black Lives Matter protests demanding an end to systemic racism and police brutality.

In black and white and shades of gray,
the swirls and strokes are figures of speech.
Cries of injustice, whispers of sorrow, and prayers for healing.
Echoes after the scream.

My relationship with abstract art centers around its enigmatic quality that invites me to connect with the artist and the physical act of creating the work. In this series, that connection ties me to the hands and hearts of those who found a place and a way to speak their deepest truths.
